Creative Writing Jobs: Living The Dream
Though creative writing isn't the most sought after job out there on the market, there are still enough for you to live while enjoying your passion of creative writing. Writing that amazing bestseller of a book or novel is one of the dreams many writers carry. This may not be something you are capable of, but you can still earn a decent living through writing a bit of both fiction and nonfiction throughout the entire year. One major challenge you will face is finding a good publisher or at least an agent that will allow you to enter into the business. While you are chasing the dream of being a best selling author, you can do many other smaller jobs in the time while you work towards it.
A particular job that is known is copy writing. Creating print ad copies, sales letters, TV commercial scripts, and even radiom copy writers create a good deal of important content. A writing course in college isn't the only classes you will need. It is good to also take a few marketing or advertising courses in order to understand how they want things laid out. While it is not particularly necessary to have a degree, it can be helpful as quite a few companies do require you to have one. Even if you don't have a college degree, many have still become successful through free lance work. Furthermore, these freelancers are becoming more popular with many businesses due to the fact they do not take up and space in the building and they do not have to pay them any benefits. This leads to lower overhead for the business.
There is also the option of teaching a creative writing class at a small college or university. You can even get a writing job through teaching a proper creative writing class that has a well put together syllabus and class structure. If you have experience in another field, you can teach online courses through the college as well. You cannot be a real professor at a university without a Masters in the Fine Arts, but there is still a market for making money off teaching others the correct way to write a proper story or piece something together for a creative outline. Creative writing encompasses so many different areas that you can focus on quite a few different aspects of the field.
You can find a large assortment of other jobs in the creative writing field as well. Using the internet you can easily locate them. Freelancers tend to find many jobs at places such as Suite101 and About. They usually write original content for their websites. A percent of the profit made off the content goes back to the writer. Ezines and print magazines are also places to look for work by creating articles. There are plenty places on the internet and in the real world that will put your creative writing skills to use and pay you for it, you just have to spend the time to look.
